The south korean designer, hitencho, has created the colorful ‘pop series’ furniture collection. the design is inspired by the expanding foam insulation technique used in building construction. pigmented polyurethane foam (PUR) is applied to the gaps in between colored plaster boards, and in between boards covered with aluminium foil tape. the material expands as it is sandwiched in the gaps, forming the quirky decoration while also working as an adhesive to stick the different elements together.

the brightly pigmented collection by the seoul based designer comprises of various objects, including a pink chair and differently colored stools. to achieve the intriguing marbling effect of the pink chair, sound frequencies have been employed to develop the individual swirling patterns. in essence, hitencho takes an everyday material to create a vibrant and fun series of furniture.
